Committees Are PR Launching Pads

Who Stepped Up

Committees Are PR Launching Pads: Got an issue, cause, service or product you want to publicize? Form a committee. They give you a credible platform, and the media listens to credibility. The media is loaded each day with stories about committees trying to raise awareness or money, change behavior or fix problems. A committee gives you a unified voice of people from various fields working toward one objective. The media will cover this entity, and send the one-person crusades to the file. The Committee on Capital Markets Regulation is making noise as they push for a softening of laws enacted in response to the 2002 corporate scandals. As memories fade, this "independent" committee comprised of business, legal, investor-advocate and academic figures is getting stronger. They smartly developed a major study on over-governance that they can refer to frequently, wave from the platform, and generate tons of publicity from. Coverage equals repetition, which is key for gaining acceptance of an idea. And the key to frequent credible coverage is to create a formal, viable committee to generate it.
